Gakpo signed for Liverpool: LFC won the battle against MU

Manchester United have been on the move for young Dutch forward Cody Gakpo during the summer transfer window. Eric ten Haag, the new coach of Man United, did not even want to buy him. The youngster, who plays for PSV in the Netherlands, played great football in the World Cup in Qatar and became a hot cake during the winter transfer season.

Manchester United started negotiations to buy him again. Gakpo also responded to that discussion. Several media outlets claimed that the two sides were also continuing talks. Liverpool has ‘robbed’ that contract. Gakpo, 23, has signed a deal with the All Reds, disappointing the Red Devils.

In an official statement, PSV confirmed that Liverpool and PSV have reached an agreement regarding the signing of Cody Gakpo. He will soon go to England to complete the necessary procedures of party transfer. Neither club is willing to comment on the financial aspects of the deal. However, it is reported that this is PSV’s record transfer.

English media claimed that Liverpool are spending as much as 37 million pounds to buy Gakpo. Liverpool agreed a deal within 72 hours of expressing their interest in signing him. Reds defender and Dutch captain Virgil von Dijk is believed to have played a major role in making the deal a success.

Liverpool have made a club-record signing of Darwin Nunez from Benfica to fill Sadio Mane’s place. Earlier, Jurgen Klopp bought Diego Jota and Luis Diaz. But injuries to Jota and Diaz make it difficult for the Reds to finish the season in the top four. Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino are not able to carry the load of the team. That’s why the German coach is bringing Gakpoke to the Reds camp.

The deal between PSV and Liverpool was completed on Boxing Day, December 26. Man United showed interest in taking Gakpo. However, it was rumored that the Reds would sign Gakpo at the start of next season. However, injuries to several star footballers like Luis Diaz and Diego Jota forced Gakpo to take them into the team earlier.

Liverpool just beat Aston Villa 3-1. The next match is against Leicester City on the very last day of the year. But Liverpool had to lose against Man City before going down against Aston Villa. It is now to be seen whether Gakpo can match himself in the team in the middle of the Premier League.
