Hockey is a term used to denote various types of both summer and winter team sports which originated on either an outdoor field or a frozen pond. Commonly called hockey, ice hockey, or field hockey, the game involves two teams of eleven players attempting to knock a ball – the “puck” – into their opponent’s goal by using sticks. While the origins of hockey are unknown, the modern version was developed in Canada in the nineteenth century, with rules based on association football.
